HOW TO PLAY THREE CARD POKER

• To start, the player places an ante and/or a pair bet, betting that they will have at least a pair or higher.

• Then three cards are dealt face down to each player and the dealer. You play only against the dealer and not the other players at the table.

• The player then looks at their hand and decides whether to play their hand (equal to the amount they bet ante) to play their hand against the dealer's hand. The optimal strategy says that the player should “play” all hands that are higher than Queen, Six, and Four and fold all hands that are worse.

• If a player folds, the hand ends and the dealer collects the player's ante and pair bets. If a player places a play bet, the cards are turned over to determine whether the player has a better hand than the dealer.

• If the dealer has a Jack-high hand or worse, the player's bet is returned to the player. If the dealer has a Queen-high hand or better, both the player's bet and the ante are paid at 1 to 1 odds if the player has a better hand than the dealer.

• If the dealer's hand is higher, both the ante and play bets are collected. The pair plus bet is determined completely independently of what the dealer has.
